Enjoyed another long(ish) bike rally this past weekend- the Richardson WildRide. Have done this one a couple times before- nice route and well managed. Was crowded this year though, with nice weather for 3/4 of the ride- until the strong headwind coupled with a long gradual uphill on the way back.
We powered through the 40 mile route with no problems though. WIll save the 60+ mile distances for later in the summer.
My 47th birthday was today. They come so fast. But each year I like to defy my age and do a stupidly long endurance event, usually centered around my new age.
This year I did an age-related self-triathlon. I started out by doing both the 5:15 am and 6:30 am Plano Wetcats swim workouts, until I reached 4700 yards. Then, after a ridiculously long first transition (T1 to my tri colleages) which involved eating lots of pancakes, I packed up the bike and headed for White Rock lake.
My first triathlon of the season is this weekend - bright (er, dark) and early Sunday morning up at Ray Roberts State Park. Camping up there the night before too, so I don't have to drive 60 miles at 4am.
Just doing the sprint distance, so no big deal really - just a strong 90 minute or less workout. And with the water temp in the 60's and the air temp in the upper 40's, I will be in no danger of overheating. Just got to find my wetsuit. And maybe replace my 13 year old tri suit.
