Christmas Relays

David swimming butterfly

My Master's swim group, the Plano Wetcats did a fun, annual casual swim meet this morning, the Christmas Relays. Dallas Aquatic Masters puts it on every year around this time. It's all relays, no times are recorded, and the "awards" are fruit or candy.  And the MC is a 3 time Olympic gold medalist who once held 10 world records.

The coach signed me up for two butterfly events (my best stroke), one backstroke, the kicking relay, and a really silly one where you have to trade a sweatshirt between relay members. We swam well - our medley relay team of middle aged guys was barely beaten by a bunch of 20-something ex SMU swimmer.  I went about 30 seconds for my first 50 fly, which is just barely a half-second off what I expect the USMS Nationals qualifying time will be for next year.  So I have a chance!
