My 47th birthday was today. They come so fast. But each year I like to defy my age and do a stupidly long endurance event, usually centered around my new age.
This year I did an age-related self-triathlon. I started out by doing both the 5:15 am and 6:30 am Plano Wetcats swim workouts, until I reached 4700 yards. Then, after a ridiculously long first transition (T1 to my tri colleages) which involved eating lots of pancakes, I packed up the bike and headed for White Rock lake.
Five laps later (about 9 miles) plus a little bonus riding and I made it to 47 miles. It was hot and windy, but I pushed through. Too bad I had not been born a day before- was 20 degrees cooler and calm the day before.
After yet another long transition (T2) with lots of eating and a short couch nap, I hit Spring Creek Preserve for 4.7 miles of running through the woods. A short(ish) run, but still the hardest event of the day, mostly due to its position at the end. About 6 hours of exercise today, but felt good.
Not looking forward to my 80th birthday - that is going to be a long day..
