Over the past twenty plus years I've developed database engines, operating systems, and web and desktop applications as a software engineer, built and managed technical teams and departments as a manager, director and VP of Engineering, started my own company focused on developing web communities, and now I run a digital agency.
My focus has always been on cutting edge software development and methodologies, solid management principles, and creating happy and successful companies.
Dallas, TX, Jan 2014 - Present
I co-founded FireRoad Digital in 2014 to take everything I had learned about software development, Internet marketing and superb customer service and create a great digital agency. We specialize in Drupal web development, mobile apps, and "technical SEO". I also founded the North Texas Drupal Users Group.
Dallas, TX, May 2011 - Oct 2013
I joined LevelTen, a digital consultancy to help it grow and become an world-class leader in the Drupal community. We offer a unique, Agile approach to web strategy, Drupal website design & development, mobile application development, SEO, social media management and Internet marketing services. I also help lead the Dallas Drupal Users Group, organize DrupalCamp Dallas and I teach Drupal courses at Collin College.
Dallas, TX, July 2008 - 2011
In 2008 I co-founded a company to create community and content management web sites for small businesses and organizations. We gained happy clients rapidly, using only referrals and word of mouth for marketing.
Clearwater, FL, 2006 - 2008
I helped co-found CSDVRS, including pitching to the VC that supplied $20 million in startup capital. I was responsible for development and leadership of engineering teams building and supporting end user and video call agent software applications, a nationwide high-availability Internet-based video relay conferencing network & video call distribution platform, data network and databases supporting tens of thousands of end users and hundreds of video relay agents at dozens of video call center sites.
I built the technical team, the facilities, and the development processes. My teams developed the next generation of browser-based video conferencing and distributed video call agent communication and management software.
CSDVRS was acquired in 2015.
Dallas, TX, 2005-2006
At Viseon, I was responsible for the creation and leadership of a startup engineering team which developed an Internet VoIP / video telephone, including hardware and software development, full system test, usability, and release.
I recruited and hired all the engineers (software, hardware, test, support) and built the development infrastructure and facility. I developed the software specifications to enable the videophone to be a fully functional web portal, with Flikr, YouTube, and other web services interoperability. We completed our videophone just as we ran out of funding - just as the economy was beginning to collapse and venture funding dried up. Good timing.
Efficient Networks / Siemens Subscriber Networks
Dallas, TX, 2000 - 2005
At Efficient Networks (later Siemens), I was responsible for the leadership of engineering teams which developed broadband CPE devices, including DSL, Ethernet and wireless routers, VoIP and IAD devices, Internet firewalls, as well as Windows, Mac and Linux support and test applications.
I started at Efficient Networks when it was a small manufacturer of broadband networking equipment and helped it grow into the #1 provider of DSL modems and routers in the world, with a subsequent acquisition by Siemens Corporation for $1.5 billion.
I grew from managing the DSL bridge software team to eventually managing all software development for residential and business-class products, all custom and maintenance engineering, and all web, Windows, Mac and Linux platform application development. I acted as project manager for all software projects before a new project management group was created. I managed and interfaced with offshore development groups in India, China, Poland, Belgium and Germany which contributed code to our broadband devices.
Plano, TX, 1999 - 2000
At Symon I both managed the software development team and developed call center applications.
Richardson, TX, 1997 - 1998
At Answersoft I developed call center and telecom automation software applications, and later managed the software development group.
Dallas, TX, 1995-1997
At Autotester I developed automated testing software, including applications for Windows, OS/2 and web sites.
Austin, TX / Provo, UT, 1990 - 1995
At Novell I developed network operating systems in Provo on the Novell Netware 4 team, and database engine software in Austin on the Btrieve and NetWare SQL teams.
